Irish resistance

Two major disputes in the last six months have put the thorny issue of displacement of Irish workers with cheaper foreign nationals to the top of the agenda.

Ireland has long had a voluntarist system of industrial relations through its national partnership agreements. New legislation would be needed to deter displacement, and some feel that would threaten the voluntarist system.

This is just one of the topics being discussed at the CIPD Ireland Conference this week.
